Last year, we travelled to Andalucia, Spain with our friends from London, Matt and Claire. We enjoyed a week in a villa in the picturesque village of Mijas, overlooking the Mediterranean sea. This summer, Matt and Claire visited us in Toronto with their two beautiful girls. In preparing for their arrival, I wanted to put together a small welcome basket with key Canadian items.
The evening before their arrival, I stopped by the local Shoppers Drug Mart and perused the aisles looking for inspiration. I eventually picked up a bar of Coffee Crisp and Ketchup and Dill Pickle chips. Earlier in the week, I picked up two Canadian themed children’s board books from Indigo for their daughters and assembled the basket with a last minute addition of a Steam Whistle bottle opener and a Tim Horton’s gift card. To my delight, Matt eventually tried, and enjoyed, a Boston Cream donut and a Double Double coffee during his time in Toronto.
If you’re welcoming guests from abroad, you may want to consider putting together a little welcome basket as a special treat. Other Canadian products to consider include a bottles of maple syrup, Ginger Ale and/or Canadian beer!
